Kanchanjunga Express was hit by a Goods Train, reports state death toll to be around 9 and at least 41 passengers are injured.

The Kanchajunga Express was hit by goods train from the rear while it was stationery in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district. The train was bound to go to Sealdah, it was hit on Monday morning by around 8:30 AM. Government officials have concerns regarding the death tolls to increase as the people could be still stuck in the disaster. Many central and state agencies are addressing the situation in collaboration with each other.
About The Kanchanjunga Express Mishap
The accident had occurred 11 km away from Jalpaiguri station, it is said to be one of the most busiest railway stations. The Kanchanjunga Express was hit from the rear and the coaches could be seen in the mid-air. The Railway officials have stated that the Loco pilot of the goods train had crossed the signals given to him and that led to this mishap. The driver of the goods train was killed with the guard and passengers of Kanchanjunga Express. After the accident condolences from many well-known personalities were also expressed, while some also took a dig at the central government. The Rescue Operations are still in process.
Compensation to the Passengers by the PM
PM Narendra Modi also has extended a helping hand by announcing compensation to the deceased’s family of ₹10 lakh and ₹2.5 lakh to the ones who are gravely injured and ₹50,000 to the individuals with minor injuries. Meanwhile, the Railways have cancelled around 19 trains as the accident has blocked the up and down lines. This has caused a disturbance in the flow of transport in the local railways as well as Central Railways.
